Getting ready for Florida…

So for those who don’t know, my mom’s family is all from the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area in Florida, and my grandmother, who’s the only grandparent I have left, is not doing well. Heather and I are flying down on Wednesday to spend some time with my mom’s family, most of whom she hasn’t had a chance to meet yet. Apart from the fact that we’re both trying to cram a week’s worth of work into Monday and Tuesday, I’m not quite sure how to feel about taking a trip down to see my grandma for what will, I believe, be the last time I see her in this life. What do you say? What do you talk about? I’m not really sure. I know others must have similar experiences…and I suppose that maybe we just put it out of our minds and resign ourselves to the fact that it’s the last time we may see them, but our hearts always reserve that space for the tiny bit, however small, of hope that maybe we’ll see them again, just one last time. Maybe it’s not so different than just saying goodbye to a good friend who you just assume you will see again soon.

Anyway, I’m at least excited to be able to get to see everyone again and be down in Florida and paradisical (made-up word of the day!) weather. I’m sure the camera will be out many times during our trip…so watch out for some fun shots from the beach!

For those curious, we got a fabulous deal from Travelocity that included a hotel, the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. I keep looking at it on Google Earth and dreaming I was in one of those lounge chairs you can see on the beach!
